"Be mindful when it comes to your words. A string of some that don't mean much to you may stick with someone else for a lifetime." - Rachel Wolchin
I’ve lost words, many words,
words that I shouldn’t have lost,
I scattered them to many ears not considering the cost,
and when it was time to pay, I had no words
Â
no words to pay, no words to say.
Â
I’ve lost words, many words,
I gave more than necessary to a tailor,
I thought he deserved them as a favour
in return for his failure, now I’ve got no words
Â
for I thought wrong; no words to right my wrong.
Â
I’ve lost words, many words,
my little ones took a mouthful
for their riots and probing and push and pull
and I spared almost none till I had but little words
Â
little words to whisper love while they slumber.
Â
I’ve lost words, so many words:
to friendships that have hit the rocks,
to a love story that’s now in the box
O, how great the weight and worth of words –
Â
a currency as precious as time; so much we waste in a lifetime.
Â
You’d find my words here and there, not everywhere,
and some stung like a bee
and some set my burdens free
and some revealed my fears and cares unaware
Â
but I regret not that I’ve spoken,
for now, I know the value of words,
I know how silence can be golden
and why death and life are in the power of words.
